Art Works-Slate Tiles

 
 
In the slate tile art, similarly to my photographic art work, I search for a particular pattern and texture and colour in the slate, to which I apply pastel and mixed media. The slate tile is my base canvas, where I enhance particular details, forms, lines and textures to transform it to a recognizable image. These interesting and varied pieces of slate are often in rich earth colours and the more texture variation, the better I like it. The slate tiles come in their natural state but cut to different sizes and thicknesses. The “faults” and layers within the slate and the irregularities resulting from the cutting are an inherent part of the art work. All images are copyright to Edith VanderKloot
